Move a three-note idea to a new key
Use one major-triad pattern to connect interval formulas, note names and a new keyboard position.
Describe the idea before moving it
Use C4, E4 and G4 as a short ascending phrase. Its pitch offsets from the first note are 0, 4 and 7 semitones. Say that relationship aloud before moving to another key. Counting only the number of white keys would miss the black keys that appear after transposition; the semitone distances give a more reliable description of this particular pattern.
Predict a move of two semitones
Move each original pitch up by two semitones. C4 becomes D4, E4 becomes F-sharp4 and G4 becomes A4. Write the predicted sequence before opening the transposer. The exercise is not to guess a familiar hand shape, but to keep the same distances while changing the starting pitch. All three notes move by the same amount.
Check the prediction in the tool
Open Note transposer with C4 E4 G4 and a shift of +2. Choose Sharps for the output names and press Transpose. The expected result is D4, F-sharp4 and A4. Hear the result one note at a time, then open the D major reference to compare the spelling and keyboard diagram. The transposer works on note names, not uploaded audio or sheet music.
Separate pitch from spelling
Switch the transposer output to Flats. The middle output becomes G-flat4 while its pitch stays the same as F-sharp4 on this keyboard. For a D major triad, the reference spells the third F-sharp because it uses the letter F. The transposer offers a chromatic naming preference; it does not decide the correct notation for every musical key or harmonic context.
Play the new version
In D major guided practice, play D4, F-sharp4 and A4 using the physical computer keys S, T and H after clicking inside the studio. Then return to C major and play A, D and G on the computer keyboard for C4, E4 and G4. The letter shortcuts identify computer keys, so do not confuse them with the musical note names.
Keep a portable example
Download the transposed MIDI to preserve that output, or use a practice link from the studio for a selected phrase. As a second task, move C4 E4 G4 down by two semitones. Check that every note moves by the same amount, then compare the resulting pitch collection with a published reference. Work on one transposition at a time before extending the phrase.
Try it at the keyboard
What happens to C4 E4 G4 after a shift of +2 semitones?Check your answer +
It becomes D4 F-sharp4 A4. Every pitch moves up by two semitones, preserving the 0–4–7 relationship from the first note.
