MAKE THE TOOL WORK FOR YOU

How to use interval identification on the staff

Read the lower and upper letter names before counting semitones. A third spans three inclusive letters, a fourth four, and an octave returns to the same letter in the next register. Accidentals then determine whether the interval is major, minor, perfect or augmented in this exercise. Both notes appear together on the staff so their vertical relationship stays visible. The answer explanation gives the exact spelling; sound is an optional check after you have made your first decision.

Try a concrete example

C4 to F#4 is A4, an augmented fourth. C4 to G4 is P5, a perfect fifth. The first label combines the quality initial with the interval number.

Make a small practice task

Complete a ten-question set without playback, then construct the intervals you missed on the companion page.

Read the result carefully

Uses equal temperament and explicit written pitches. No account, teacher identity verification, secure exam proctoring or guarantee of learning. Local records and result receipts are editable by the device owner.

Work with the controls

  1. Choose treble or bass clef and written-note range
  2. Choose 1–50 questions and chord types
  3. Answer once, inspect the spelled-note explanation, then continue
  4. Keep optional local progress and XP
  5. Copy a repeatable configuration link; export a self-reported completion receipt

Use a short, repeatable task. Configuration links preserve the visible parameters and start a fresh session rather than sharing private scores. In an exercise, submit one first answer, inspect the revealed spelling and choose Next question. A completed set offers a self-reported receipt. Diagram exports and achievement summaries have their own controls above; they do not evaluate an acoustic performance.

Use the connected resources below to move from this experiment to a specific chord, scale or listening task. A diagram identifies pitches; a generated example gives you something to inspect and adapt. Neither is a prescribed fingering or an assessment of your physical technique.
